OUR VALUES

The Organic Empire was formed from out of one woman’s true love and passion for fresh, healthy and ‘tasty’ food. Founder and nutritionist Angela Gioffre’s social awareness and passion for health and the environment is what drives a unique business model that delivers you the highest quality produce each week.

This love of food is well ingrained in Angela’s cultural roots, with a family history of a combined 100 years in the fresh produce industry. You can expect the type of old-fashioned service afforded only to people of a bygone time.

Our vision is to get Australian’s living and leading healthier and happier lives.

What separates the Organic Empire from the majority of other home delivery services is our unique farm to door service. Our placement in the picturesque Yarra Valley, a beautiful growing mecca for organic produce and a host of downright brilliant organic farmers that believe in growing great tasting fresh organic produce without nasty chemicals, is the true difference, this is the freshness that you can see, this is the passion and love of our farmers that you will taste.

We are committed to connecting communities with local farmers, artisans and food producers, this means better for everyone. Fresher foods, fair trade for our farmers, better for the environment, and absolutely better for our health. You see ordering online with the Organic Empire means a better product for our customer, not only is the produce at its peak freshness, but its nutrient dense and superior tasting.

We value sustainability, we love to give back, and we love the idea of a healthy happy world, free of lifestyle diseases and illnesses. We believe that eating well is for everyone. So that’s why we donate organic fresh foods to our local charities each week. Feeding people organics that couldn’t normally afford is something we are passionate about, organics are not a luxury item, they are a necessity and the way nature intended us to eat.

VALUES

SUSTAINABILITY

We are committed to a sustainable future, and having a business that first does no harm. You see business and environment can go hand in hand, lets show you how we do it. We are in business to achieve social and environmental outcomes.

We reduce waste

We only order what we need, that is, what is ordered by you. That means that our farmers only harvest what is required, this means less food waste for everyone.

Our boxes- your boxes

Firstly with our boxes- we don’t cut down tree’s to deliver your produce, we re-use and recycle all the boxes that we receive the produce in…

REUSE AND RECYCLE

Produce arrives from farm in a box
We distribute produce from the box
We send your delivery in this box
Driver picks up your box on your designated delivery day
We wash and re-use your box

Sustainable is a broad term and we can identify with this in every facet of our business.

Our paper

We use 100% wheat husk paper for all our printing, but what’s more all our paper is re-used and recycled as well.   Wheat husk paper is produced using wheat straw. Unlike traditional paper it contains no bleach using a salt and oxygenation process to whiten the paper. It is also low carbon due to the wheat husk being used to generate the electricity to produce the paper.
We use masking tape to do away with plastic tape, and we hope that you find some fascinating way to re-use it. If not though we know that it’s biodegradable.

Economic Sustainability

Wherever possible we source our produce and groceries from local farmers and producers, contributing to our local economy and ensuring that we truly are a social enterprise.

Food

All the produce we sell is sustainable in every meaning of the word, whether it be certified organic, biodynamic, chemical free, one of our main pillars is sustainable.

LOCAL

Supporting local organic production
The organic industry can only grow, if we can get more farmers growing organic, and that only way to make that happen is if its supported by you. You see we vote with our dollars, we dictate the world in which we live with the money we spend. The more money that is spent on organic foods the better the outcome for us all.

Our farmers

In order to have clean nutritious food, you need to have a sustainable source. We foster a close synergy with our organic farmers and suppliers, to ensure that you receive the freshest organic produce; this means that we know our growers and they know us. We know how they care for the produce, we know their passion and we love to share it with you.

We are committed to working in harmony with local eco systems, local farmers and artisans and the only way to do that is to encourage and support new growers, especially small local family and cooperative farms.

ENVIRONMENT

Compost

Any scraps, any tiny pieces of any scraps of organics are composted, to give back to the environment from which we have taken, this includes organic fruit and organic vegetables. The result beautiful nutrient rich compost.

Reducing food miles and transport

Our close proximity to the growing mecca of Melbourne means that the majority of your produce comes virtually direct from farm to you. Apples can be picked the day before they go in your body, lettuce in the morning; you see that’s how food is meant to be eaten, fresh from the tree. Not shipped in from all over the place.

LOCAL

Over 80% of our produce comes from local amazing farmers. This is of course seasonally and climate dependant. On your ordering sheet it tells you the area from which your produce is being picked.

ORGANIC AND LOCALLY GROWN

Organic produce can be either certified organic or biodynamic.

Certified organic, certified biodynamic and local and sustainable are the banners under which all our food comes. Lets define them to make it easier for you to understand.

Certified organic: Means that the produce has been grown, without any artificial chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides. These are certified by an organic body that regularly performs audits on farms.

Certified Biodynamic: Means that produce is grown without any artificial chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides, in a holistic manner, in sync with the natural cycles of our environment.

Sustainable: Some of our farmers choose not to get certified for many different reasons, but the truth is that they would never poison their farms with chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides instead relying on time honoured methods for cultivation.

CONVENIENCE

We make its so easy for you to purchase the freshest local organic produce. You can shop online 24 hours a day, at whatever time is easiest for you, or place an order to have a box delivered each week.

Once your order has been placed, our trained professionals will pick the best produce for you guaranteed right on our very own farm.

You are only two clicks away from being healthy, saving time and money.

COMMUNITY

We live by the philosophy that no man is an island. Community is the moral fibre, which unites people, and without this our life is empty.

We foster community by supporting our local farmers, keeping the economic stability and feasibility for our community. Without this community, the community of organic farmers, we don’t have fresh produce.

We also promote community by empowering people to eat well through healthy life giving recipes, teaching the skills of food production from our own farm and promoting health with education.

PRICE

Our priority is to make organics accessible to all, organics are not a luxury item they are a necessity.

We endeavor to deliver to you the highest quality organic produce at the best available price each and every week.

We have a symbiotic relationship with our farmers; they dictate the price that is fair, fair for them fair for us. It’s a win =win.

So where does your food come from?
How important is health to you?
How can you get healthier?
