WHY EAT ORGANIC FROM THE ORGANIC EMPIRE?
Organic foods are real foods, untainted by pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilisers, genetically modified organisms, growth promoters, hormones and chemicals. Farmers utilise natures natural resources for sustainability. Balance is achieved between our food crops, animal life and the natural environment, farming is more labour intensive and resourceful. Organic foods come to you as nature intended, with a full complement of vitamins and minerals and a fantastic taste.
Fresh organic foods have been proven to substantially provide more vitamins, minerals, nutrients, micro-nutrients, flavanoids, antioxidants and enzymes than non-organic foods.
On the whole it's better for you, your family, our world.
Non-organic foods are routinely sprayed with chemical cocktails, of which many of these pesticides and chemicals have been linked to cancers and other diseases. The average non-organic apple for example can contain up to 20 residual pesticide and artificial chemicals, even after rinsing!
OUR KIDS Organic foods are important for us all, but children's lower body mass vs. their larger intake of food per kilogram makes them even more vulnerable to toxins than adults. At the most crucial developmental stage it is important to nourish our kids with healthy and chemical free food.
TASTE Organic foods simply taste better, there are more intensive flavours. These are created firstly because organic foods are grown slower then non-organic foods, so the actual flavours in the produce develops naturally. Organic produce is not 'watered down' so to speak, the use of artificial fertilisers swells conventional plants and produce with more water, diminishing the taste. Organic foods absorb less water. Then in turn the well balanced soils produce strong plants that become nourishing food for us.
CARBON TRADE The Rodale Institute in Pennsylvania conducted a series of field trials between 1981 and 2002, they found that organic soils have a greater capacity to retain water, carbon and nutrients like nitrogen because organic fertilisers , mulch, compost, manure and other organic waste matters - build up the soil, are more efficient at retaining water (from 15 to 20 per cent more) and carbon (up to 981 kilograms per hectare in the organic system as opposed to 293 kg per ha in the conventional) And the more carbon in the soil, the less in the atmosphere.
The Institute summed up by calculating that 10,000 medium sized organic farms would be equivalent to taking around 1,100,000 cars off the road and would use only 63 per cent of the energy of conventional farms.
ORGANIC FARMERS WORK IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
Organic agricultural respects the balance demanded of a healthy ecosystem:
wildlife is encouraged by including forage crops in rotation and by retaining
fence rows, wetlands, and other natural areas.
Our soil is the foundation of the food chain; organic farming employs
practices that encourage soil health.
Organic farming supports the rural economy because its more labour
intensive.
ORGANIC FARMERS RESPECT OUR WATER RESOURCES
The elimination of polluting chemicals and nitrogen leaching, done in
combination with soil building, protects and conserves water resources.
Conventional non-organic farming uses fertilisers, this run-off then enters
and pollutes our rivers and waterways contributes to toxic algal blooms in
coastal waters.
PROMOTES ANIMAL WELFARE Organic farming seeks to promote and carry out the highest standards pertaining to animal welfare, health and wellbeing of animals.
CHOOSE HEALTH...CHOOSE LIFE
By choosing organic foods, you choose to encourage the health of your
children, our wildlife, our soils, our waterways, you encourage life.
